Making an article/editing one: Tips and Rules
Hello! I'm here to discuss the rules of editing. I've been seeing a lot of people breaking some of these rules, and I figured that I should make a forum post about this.
Now, we'll start with the basics.
Don't vandalize, don't post spam, no rude edits, and don't make pages solely for the purpose of earning badges. Blah, blah, blah.
Now, here are the main rules.
Get the facts.
Don't make an article without knowing anything about the thing you're writing about. If you were writing an article about, say, Freddy Fazbear, you wouldn't write something like:
"And on the 13th of October, 1977, Freddy Fazbear wandered out into the forest areas, looking for tree sap to shut down Foxy. Then, he came across an animatronic rabbit, and he high-fived it's face and then they rode into the sunset on hoverboards. The end."
That's just an example, and I did it in a "comedic" way, but seriously, get the facts.
Check your spelling.
Even if you graduated college when you were, 4 or something, you have to check your spelling. Yes, in some cases this means googling the word you want. If you make one simple typo, it can change the whole meaning of the page. I was once talking to somebody and when they said Freddy Fazbear, they accidentally replaced a certain letter with P. Luckily, they were quick enough to explain that it was a typo, but when you're editing a page, you have to check it. Of course, there is a chance somebody will come along and fix that spelling error, but still. Check it.
Stay on topic.
Don't wander off into your imagination while editing. You could accidentally write something that just floats off into your mind. It would be something like this.
"And thus, the war hot potato hot potato cherry cherry cherry tomato."
Congratulations! You are now a proper wikia contributor. You're probably better than me! Here's you in the future.
I really hope that this helped. I spent like, 5 minutes on this. I could've been watching TV in those 5 minutes. All jokes aside, don't break any of these rules. If you do it a number of times we'll begin to think that you're just messing with us and block you. And you don't want to be blocked.
No, trust me, you don't.
Have a good day! Or night. Depends on where you are.
